Special forces have eliminated several bandits besieging the Kaduna-Abuja highway in northwestern Nigeria.

After months of laxity, amid national outrage over the kidnappings and killings, the federal government finally ordered reinforcements, additional equipment, and increased surveillance.

More than a dozen bandits were wiped out between Thursday and Friday in a major attack that followed viral videos of kidnappings and enemy gunfire.

Intelligence agents revealed that some of the bodies were recognized as residents of nearby towns.

“So far we have killed more than a dozen armed bandits who tried to escape on motorcycles after spotting troop movements.

“Most of them are behind recent kidnappings on the roads, as some people identified the corpses as familiar faces within the communities,” a military official told PRNigeria.

The massive deployment of troops and assets followed the directive of President Muhammadu Buhari.

The president gave the order at the National Security Council (NSC) meeting on Thursday.
